I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental therapeutic environment where you can be free to be your most authentic self.
I understand that counselling can feel daunting and we may question whether we are ‘troubled enough’ to seek support.
However, I have witnessed firsthand the transformation and growth that comes when we allow ourselves to be open and vulnerable with another person. I invite you to allow yourself the opportunity to be truly heard and seen as we explore your inner world and uncover limiting beliefs and behaviours that are no longer serving you.
HOLISTIC APPROACH
I work from an integrated holistic approach that includes a person's emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well-being.
I use a combination of traditional talk therapy where we explore deeply held belief systems that may be causing you distress, as well as somatic therapy (or body-centered therapy) that incorporates awareness of sensations and emotions in the body, breath work practices, and gentle movement as a holistic healing modality.
My therapeutic approach is informed by the following theories:
Somatic Experiencing
Body Centered Psychotherapy
Polyvagal Theory
Mindfulness Based Embodiment
Transpersonal Therapy (Spiritual Psychology)
Inner Child Work / Reparenting
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Existentialism
My counselling practice is firmly rooted in:
Health at Every Size (HAES)
Trauma Informed Care
Non-Diet Living
Intuitive Eating Principles
AREAS of FOCUS
Eating Disorders
I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and body image issues, working with clients who struggle with distorted thought patterns around food and eating, disordered eating behaviours, body dysmorphia, low self-esteem/self-worth, and feelings of anxiety and perfectionism.
Our therapeutic goals may include improving your relationship with food and your body, eliminating intrusive and obsessive thoughts around food, reconnecting with your body's hunger and fullness cues, regaining food freedom, and rediscovering the joy and pleasure of eating.
Relational Healing
Our mental well-being can be gauged by the quality of our relationships. If our relationships are strained, dysfunctional, and tumultuous then we cannot truly thrive. This includes our relationship to ourselves as well as our relationship to others.
Our work together may include cultivating self-compassion, rediscovering your inner voice and speaking your truth, improving interpersonal communication skills, learning how to set and respect healthy boundaries, and practicing authentic listening skills
Somatic Therapy
Somatic therapy uses body based interventions in order to access deeper levels of healing that may not be accessible using talk therapy alone. As a trauma informed yoga teacher and certified meditation teacher I may bring body-centered healing practices into our therapy sessions as an adjunct to psychotherapy if clients are interested. This may include grounding techniques, gentle movement, breathwork, guided visualization, and therapeutic yoga for holistic healing.
These practices have been proven to strengthen the mind-body connection, lower anxiety, release stored trauma, process difficult emotions, improve self-confidence, and regulate our nervous systems.
